Udog SEMPRE Review: The Shoe That Fits Japanese Feet—and Stays On Them, Ride After Ride

The SEMPRE is the latest arrival from Italian shoe brand Udog. As their entry-level model, it marks the brand’s first use of a dial closure, and its charming design has been turning heads. Our friend Non slipped them on and shares her honest impressions.

The SEMPRE sits at the most accessible price point in Udog’s lineup — though with the weak yen, “affordable” is a relative term. Entry-level it may be, but it’s built with the practicality needed for daily training and long rides. Where the flagship CENTO leans into pure racing, the SEMPRE feels like the everyday pair you’ll want to keep wearing, ride after ride.

The SEMPRE comes in two colorways: Total White and Octane. Both carry Udog’s signature clean aesthetic — exactly what you want when how you look on the bike matters as much as how you ride.

SEMPRE Review

The first thought that struck me: “simple, yet undeniably cute.” The white base keeps things crisp and clean, while the oversized logo running diagonally across the side — and the Udog lettering visible from behind — adds just the right accents.

Coming from Fizik shoes, the rounded toe box felt refreshingly different — almost surprising at first*. The little design details are clever, and I can see this one resonating with women cyclists.

*Udog was founded by a former brand director at Fizik. The aim was to build products that fit today’s riders better, accommodating a wider variety of foot shapes than Fizik’s notoriously narrow last.

The heel locks in securely with a reassuring grip, while the toes get room to breathe. There’s a little space across the instep too, and what amazed me was that even my wide, high-arched feet — with a touch of bunion — didn’t get any pressure points at all. There’s more room than Fizik’s wide sizing, with no worry about the ball of my foot hitting the shoe. Just comfortable.

The sole stiffness hits a sweet spot — never soft and flexy, but never punishingly rigid either. Every pedal stroke feels good.

The “Twist Tech” dial spins with a feather-light touch. I was puzzled by it at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s actually wonderfully simple. Being able to fine-tune fit mid-ride brings a real sense of confidence.

That white ribbon-like detail is the “Tension Wrap System 2.0 (TWS 2.0),” which cinches the entire upper evenly around the foot. No pinch, no hot spots — just stable, secure hold.

Post-ride cleaning is where things get tricky. Dirt clings stubbornly to the toe box, and the TWS 2.0 ribbon isn’t easy to wipe down either. It doesn’t come clean with a quick swipe, so keeping these pristine takes a bit of effort.

Always. Forever. Together.

SEMPRE, I’m told, means “always, forever” in Italian.

Beyond the clean, charming design, the real appeal is a fit that welcomes wide, high-arched, even slightly bunion-prone feet like mine. The constant pain at the ball of my foot I’d grown used to in other shoes? Completely gone with SEMPRE. That alone was a revelation. If you’ve struggled with the same issue, this is one to try.

Though positioned as an entry-level shoe, it delivers stability, ride quality, and design that transcend the “entry” label. True to its name, this is a pair you’ll want to keep riding in — always.
